These photos were made at the height of the
spectacular fire which
raged through the, two million dollar,
"CUNARD/WHITE STAR STEAMSHIP
LINE"
"PIER 54"
ON NEW YORK'S WEST SIDE
MAY 6th, 1932
Five fire companies, aided by the cities fireboats,
fought the fire for hours.
Approximately 150 firemen were overcome by
smoke, or otherwise incapacitated.
It was still burning eight hours after the
first alarm was turned in.
