A beautiful, turn of the 20th century , lithograph
on board
of the Packet Ship
"ADELAIDE"
with various other shipping traffic in the
background.
This litho is made in the very old style,
with details and colors
akin to a real oil painting, and since its
done on board with
no frame or glass , its hard to tell its not
oil, making one
want to move close in a feel its texture.
There is a very unusual circular area around
the ship that gives
the appearance the ship is being viewed in
a dream state.
Packet Ships sailed between the United States
and Europe in
the early to mid 1800's
This litho is believed to be made from the
original works of
DONALD M. FARLANE
as the Packet Ships entered and exited the
British Harbor in the mid 1800's
The piece has some minor marks and blemishes
but is in truly
excellent condition for its age.

GEORGE F FULLER LITHOGRAPH
"A STEAMBOAT RACE ON THE MISSISSIPPI
RIVER"
A very fine mid 20th Century print made from
the original
oil painting by George F Fuller in 1859, depicting
the
steamboat race between the Baltic and the
Diana,
March 21st, 1859
The Baltic was the winner after 5 days, 6 hours
and 22 minutes.
Almost a year earlier, The Diana, on June
13th, 1858, played a
dramatic role in the history of the Mississippi.
She rescued many of the survivors of the Pennsylvania,
which
exploded at Ship Island.
One of the survivors was Mark Twain's brother,
who died later
of serious burns.
Both the Diana and The Baltic were used by
the Union
as transports during the Civil War.
This is a special reprint made in 1962 by
the
MISSISSIPPI LIME COMPANY, ALTON, ILLINOIS
A very nice piece, with the look and detail
of a genuine oil.
In its original wooden gold leaf frame with
original glass.
The rear of the frame has an attached tag
with the history of the ships
in greater detail.
