"SHIPS INTERNATIONAL SIGNAL/WARNING FLAG"

An original Ship's International Warning Flag, made by the Dettra Flag Co,
"International "U' Size 4"
Such flags were used to signal other approaching vessels with important
information.
A different flag, with a different message, was used for each letter of
the phonetic alphabet.
This flag marked "U" or "Uncle" was used to warn other vessels not to
approach the area due to hidden dangers.
The above was obtained from the famous French Line Vessel
"NORMANDIE"
prior to its destruction in the 1940's
when it was laid up at New York Harbor at the start of WWII.
46" L x 42"H  with a round brass ring at the top and a 3/8" section
of rope  with a solid brass clip at the bottom.
A great original item for framing.

A very early 1900's yacht's flag, made by/marked the
DETTRA FLAG CO/BULLDOG BUNTING
Moth Proof, Best by Test, 2 ply warp and filling.
44 1/4" L x 27" H
In excellent condition for its age with some minor fraying  and loose stitching.
A very decorative item, and great for framing.

be from either a military or civilian ship.
In excellent condition for its age with some minor fraying and worn areas.
