a large dinner place setting,
from the gift shop of the
"KAISER WILHELM II"
of
NORTH GERMAN LLOYD LINES FLEET
A very nice and hard to find item, with the
four funnel
ship at the center, surrounded by the flags
of many other countries,
and one US flag at each corner.
This vessel sailed prior to WW I, and is of
very early 1900's vintage.
The Kaiser Wilhelm II departed New York on
Tuesdays for Bremen, Plymouth,
and Cherbourg in conjunction with three other
vessels, The Kronprinzessin Cecilie,
Kronprinz Wilhelm, and the Kaiser Wilhelm
Der Grosse.
Later during WWI the ship was seized and renamed
the
S.S. AGAMEMNON, also seized was the
KRONPRINZESSIN CECILIE, which was renamed
the
MOUNT VERNON.
The two vessels traveled as troopers in a
convoy with six destroyers.
The narrowly missed a torpedo attach on their
September 1918 crossing.
The silk is fully framed in a wooden black
molding frame
