A very rare, late 19th century , free standing, British Ship's
Binnacle Compass.
All parts 100% original and in excellent, and fully functional condition.
Made of bronze, & pink brass (very similar to copper), with
a beautiful natural aged patina.

The unit is 47" high, 27" wide, & 17"
deep, with a 12" diameter base.
The font and burner, the size of a lantern
in its own right, is 11" high by 4" diameter marked
VAPORITE, PATENTED #583326
The compass is 10 3/4" in diameter.
Complete with its cast iron "Navigator's Balls"
The entire unit is a very hefty 145 Pounds!!!!

Another fine example
of a free standing British Ship's Binnacle Compass.
Made of solid carved heavy mahogany
with a brass helmet, Flindler's Tube with cap,
liquid inclinometer to 40 degrees to heel & port, and
cast iron port & starboard "Navigator's Balls".
The compass is made of very heavy cast bronze and is fully functional.
The unit is
56 1/2" tall, 30" wide, and 22" deep with a
very heft weight of 193 pounds!!!
The compass is 10 " in diameter x 5 1/2" deep
The Flindler's Bar Tube is 23" tall x 2 1/2" in diameter.

The unit was made to accept an oil burner,or
electric lighting,
and is temporary wired for internal illumination
using and original passage lamp,
which gives a very appealing visual effect
in red.
A very nice piece of mid 20th century workmanship,
nicely polished & refinished to like new
condition.
