"10" BRITISH MICROMETER SEXTANT"
An original, mid 20th century micrometer sextant made by the
well known manufacturer
"KELVIN & HUGHES LIMITED"

The unit is made of ebonized cast aluminum
with one large adjustable telescope,
quick release, micrometer adjustment wheel,
index & horizon mirror, &
three legs on both sides of the unit.
This sextant was not made for use with any
sun filters.
The original box is made of dovetail mahogany
& contains the unit's
certification / calibration card dated &
signed February 20th, 1959.
The graduated arc is 10" from edge to edge
& is marked
"MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN"
"SURVEY MARK II"
H. HUGHES & SON LTD.
The index arm has an attached brass tag that
has the company logo marked
"HUSUN"
with the image of the sun above & the
water below.
The unit is 9" tall x 10 " wide x 6" deep
in its legs.
The box is 13 1/2" wide x 12" tall x 6 3/4"
high with two
front locking clips & a key hole (key
& lock missing).
The telescope lenses are 95% clear, mirrors
have some age spots,
however the unit is in functional condition.

A beautiful , and original 9" British Sailing
Sextant made of solid brass
with a nicely aged patina.

engraved in script on the center of the graduated
arc.
The unit is in excellent condition for its
age, with no marks or scratches
on any of the mirrors.
The unit is full complete with two telescopes,
7 sun filters, index and horizon mirrors,
and extra lens cover, adjustment tool,
mahogany handle, and
a hinged magnifier help to read the beautiful
silvered scale, which also is in
excellent , and fully readable condition.
The unit is 9 1/2" H x 9" W arc x 4"D laying
on its legs.
The Box which is believed to be made of dovetail
walnut,
has a beautiful aged look, with a shape
similar to an Octant measures
11 1/2" L x 11" W x 5" H
and has two locking hooks, a carrying handle
and lock( key missing).

Just a wonderful antique navigation device
in fully functional condition.

This is a 10" sextant, made of solid brass
with a beautiful
bronze patina, 7 sun filters, a long telescope,
with two
eyepieces, an oil bottle, a hinged magnifier,
to read the two
silvered scales, with a full release, and
precision slow motion
adjustment wheel.
The inside cover of the box has the certification/calibration
certificate issued by :
THE NATIONAL PHYSICAL LABORATORY
TREDDINGTON
to certify the sextants calibration adjustments,
and
the manufacturers workmanship!!!!
This sextant was certified as
"CLASS A"
for both accuracy and manufacturing, complete
with an adjustment scale to compensate
for its accuracy in actual use.

"WILFRED O' WHITE 10" SEXTANT"
An original 10"sextant , made by the famous compass designer

BOSTON, MA
This sextant was made during the first year
Wilfred started business in Boston
after his breakaway from his former Kelvin
ties in Scotland.
The unit was manufactured under contract for
"THE UNITED STATES SHIPPING
BOARD"
JANUARY , 1919
UNIT # 1401
as marked on the graduated arc, and on the
box plaque.
This was most likely Wilfred's first production
run of sextants for the Shipping Board
since he had just opened his new business
in 1919.
The unit was sent out to the
NATIONAL PHYSICAL LABORATORY
TREDDINGTON, ENGLAND
to be certified , calibrated, and tested
for its quality.
Certified as Class A, signed and dated January
1919
All sextants sent to this British establishment
were considered the
cream of the crop if they passed the inspection
, and sold only by the finest manufactures.
The unit is complete with all telescopes and
eye pieces.
The box is 11 1/4" l x 10" w x 5 1/2" h
