The vessel was built by John Brown & Company, Clydebank, Scotland
in February of 1905, its maiden voyage was from
Liverpool-Queenstown-New York on February 25th.
The vessel traveled this route in the spring/summer months &
the New York-Mediterranean route in the winter.

THE CARONIA ALSO SENT OUT ICEBERG
WARNINGS, ONE OF WHICH WAS RECEIVED
BY TITANIC, BUT WAS NOT SENT TO THE BRIDGE
TILL MUCH LATER THAN ACTUALLY RECEIVED !!!

In 1914 the ship was converted to a troopship & held in this
service until her release in 1918, when she returned to
her regular route , January 11th, 1919.
In 1920 she was converted to oil & serviced the
Hamburg-Southampton-New York route until April 1922.
Her routes changed from time to time  between  1923 & 1932 until she
was sold to Hughes Bolchow ship breakers for 20,000 British Pounds.
The ship was then resold later in 1932 to Japanese ship breakers for 39,000 BP.
The Japanese renamed her
"TAISEIYO MARU"
which meant
"THE GREAT OCEAN SHIP"
A well earned calling for one of Cunard's Loveliest ships.
The vessel was scrapped in 1933.

The unit is 17" in diameter at the base, 19 1/2"
high to the top of its original cast iron hanger.
