CAST IRON DOCK CLEATS

"WILCOX CRITTENDEN TOW CLEAT"

 


An original cast iron tow cleat made by
WILCOX CRITTENDEN
with the WC logo on one side & 1 1/2 cast into the other side meaning
the tow capacity was 1.5 tons
The unit is 8 1/2" wide x 8 1/2" tall x 3 1/2" thick at the center
The mounting base is 6" deep x 5" wide x 3/4" thick with
bolt holes at each corner.
The unit weighs a hefty 13 pounds for its petite size.
This is a very hard to find item in excellent condition for its age.

"DOUBLE DOCK CLEAT"

A nice double dock cleat cast on a singular base,  made by
"L. C. HARRY COMPANY, MAKERS, NEW YORK  MAY 2ND, 1919"
as per foundry marks on the units base.
The unit was cracked during the port renovation, however
it meets up nicely and can still be bolted down as one unit.
The crack also gives the unit great character and makes it easier
to handle.
The unit measures

"49" CLEAT"

A somewhat uncommon , 49" cast iron cleat, with a four bolt hole base
in excellent condition for its age, with no cracks or breaks.
The hollow center can be cement filled or just bolted down.

"43" CLEAT"

A more common early 20th century, 43" double bolt hole cleat,
in excellent condition for its age.

Weight Approx. 175 to 185 pounds
Unidentifiable foundry marks on both sides.

"43" CLEAT"

Another 43" Cleat, almost a perfect match to item PFDC-3 above.
Marks on one side appear to be from a New Jersey Foundry.
The unit is hollow at its main section and meant to be
cement filled or bolted down. The bolt holes are filled
with its original frozen bolts in place.
Late 19th to very early 20th century vintage.

"42" CLEAT"

Another very similar cleat to Items 3 & 4, with a hollow center
for cement filling and two clear bolt holes.
Late 19th  to very early 20th century vintage.
In good condition for its age with some small chips
out of one side of the base (left side bottom)

51" SOLID CAST IRON CLEAT"

A very old, mid 19th century, 51" solid cast iron cleat.
THIS MONSTER CLEAT COULD HOLD TITANIC
IF THE SHIP WAS DANGLING IN MID AIR!!!!
The cleat was meant to be set in cement and bolted as well.
The unit has a foundry plate on the front center

Extremely heavy and thick cast iron base made back in the days
when materials were inexpensive, and this particular foundry
didn't hold back on its workmanship!!!
In excellent condition for its age with no unusual damage.
(bolt holes filled with its original frozen bolts)
51" L x 12" W x 9" H
with a base that a solid 2" thick with 1" footings for setting in cement.
Weight a very hefty 400 pounds!!!

Another very nice 51" cleat of late 19th century vintage.
Solid cast iron , and meant to be set in cement and bolted.
The unit has very nice foundry lines and the bolt holes are clear.
No foundry marks on the unit.
In excellent condition for its age.
