"19TH CENTURY GIMBALLED SALON LAMP"
An all brass gimballed table top ship's
"SALON LAMP"
Mfr. in the USA by
EDWARD MILLER & COMPANY
as cast on the wick adjustment knob.
A company which was started in 1844
in Meriden Connecticut.
The lamp is in excellent & fully functional condition with a very nice natural aged patina

"LARGE WROUGHT IRON & BRASS STARBOARD LANTERN"
An original, early 20th century, european ship lantern, used on the
starboard side of the ship.
A beautiful lantern, in excellent condition for its age, with a
thick clear fresnel, scalloped pink brass chimney roof,
oil burner, reflector, and blown glass chimney.
The lantern is marked
"STUURBOORD"
SERIAL # R672394
The lantern has no other mfg. markings, however
it is believed that this lantern was made in Scotland by
R.C. MURRAY & CO
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND
We believe this do to quite a similar serial
number sequence, &
the fact that the manufacturer etches the
number into the fresnel lens, with almost
the exact handwriting as other lanterns we
have that carry the companies name plate.
The lantern is quite large, 24" tall to the top of the handle upright

14" wide x 14" deep

"RUSSELL & STOLL CO MERCHANT MARINE LANTERN"
An original, very early 20th century ship's lantern, used aboard
a
"SALEM CLIPPER SHIP"
in the late 1920's/early 1930's from the port
of New York.
The ship was eventually pieced out, and refitted
as a World War II
Liberty/Troopship.
Someone very handy aboard the ship took an
original oil burner, removed the oil
tank, kept the twist & lock
base, added a electric fixture, which was used
to illuminate the lamp during its service
in WWII.
No alterations were made to the lantern, it
also has its original oil burner, and can be used
either way.
The bulb shown is original from the 1940's
but no longer works, the fixture however
is fully functional & can accept any standard
light bulb.
After the war ended, the lantern was used
aboard the tanker ship
"JOHN B. CADDEL"
The lamp was eventually removed from the ship
sometime in the 1950's by a merchant marine officer
who served aboard the vessels for 28 years
, retired & lives in Guttenberg, NJ.
The information above was obtained from this
officer as best as his memory serves.
The Lantern is quite huge, and heavy, made
of beautiful patinated "Pink Brass", by
"RUSSELL & STOLL CO"
NEW YORK
with a gorgeous, & quite thick red fresnel
lens.
Red Lenses were blended with "GENUINE GOLD"
to create there
beautiful deep red color!!!
The unit is 18" high, 24" with handle in the
upright position,
by 9" in diameter.
Weight a very hefty 16 pounds
Equipped with both, twist & lock
oil burner, & oil burner converted
for electric illumination.
Just a wonderful, & historic piece
of maritime history, still fully functional,
and in excellent condition for its age &
service.

"BRASS SHIP'S LANTERN"
A beautiful, & original , combination brass, bronze, & brass plated steel oil lantern, with a large &
thick 360 degree red fresnel.
Red Fresnel's were blended with "GENUINE GOLD" to give the deep
red color.
Complete with its original twist & lock oil burner with
double wick feeder.
The unit is 17" high, 22" with handle upright, x 10" diameter.
The fresnel is 8" diameter x 7" high
Weight a hefty 16 pounds.
In excellent and functional condition for its age, with a nice aged
patina.
Believed to be from a heavy weight, merchant marine vessel.

"PORT & STARBOARD SIDE RUNNING LANTERNS"
An original pair British Port & Starboard Main Running Lanterns
made
of pink brass, very similar to copper, with a beautiful & natural
aged patina.
The lanterns are complete with their original oil burners which
slide on
a track from the rear, with a sliding rear access door.
The front of the units have an attached brass tags
"PORT & STARBOARD"
& the Starboard lantern has a brass circular tag marked
"SEAHORSE TRADEMARK"
