"CUSTOM MADE ANCHOR PLAQUE"

A very decorative, hand made floor standing,
or wall hanging anchor plaque.
The second one of its kind, the first was
made back in 1970,
and hung in our family room,
(or what our friends considered the party
room)
in our home on
"THE GREAT SOUTH BAY"
WEST ISLIP, LI, NY
Using the old one as a prototype, I personally
made this one, which
took more than a year of planning, to obtain
all the right mix of parts,
and about six weeks to build.
The unit is 40" in diameter, and made with
a circular 3/4" thick,
piece of hand cut birch.
The Original Turn Of The Century
"KEDGE ANCHOR"
was positioned to attach all mounting hardware
, as well as a rear
kick out stand, and heavy duty wall mounting
chain, with wall protectors.
The rope used was very old, 1950's or earlier,
and used aboard, fishing
or rigging boats.
I allowed it to season in the weather, to
even its natural look,
for 12 to 18 months, under all conditions,
moving and rotating it
as mother nature did its wonderful job.
Then began the long task to unravel, clean,
removing dirt, mold, and
working the natural flexibility of the rope
again.
Then the long task of gluing every inch ,
not just sections, but all of the 150-200 feet
of 3/4" rope, twisting, brushing, cleaning
and tightening each revolution,
and allowing 24 hours of drying between each
one.
Finally the re-attachment of the Kedge Anchor
at three points,
to hold it in its reverse "V" position, with
top ring and finial forward.
Finishing the center , with a modern day, blacksmith
made, laser cut,
and hand beveled steel

FINDING SUCH CUSTOM WORK IN TODAY'S MARKETPLACE
IS NOT A EASY TASK, EVEN FOR PROFESSIONAL
DESIGNERS.
DUE TO THE AVAILABILITY OF MATERIALS, AND TIME
REQUIRED
TO CONSTRUCT SUCH AN ITEM, I WILL MOST LIKELY
NOT BUILD
ANOTHER FOR AT LEAST 2-3 YEARS OR MORE.
THE ONE ABOVE WAS COMPLETED IN THE SUMMER OF
2002,
AND WAS DISPLAYED IN BOTH OUR
LABOR DAY SHOW IN BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY 2002 AND
THE HISTORIC HARBOR FAIR, MAMARONECK, NY JUNE

"SAILORS DELIGHT"

A hand made, very decorative, wall hanging
nautical fixture, with
an original piece of oil art on canvas, painted
by a mid 1900's artist,
in the old , turn of the century style.
The unit was built using two panels of 3/4"
Birch, glued and bolted
together, with heavy 3/8" carriage bolts,
with gold painted heads.
The wood boards were distressed and stained
with cherry.
Attached at the center, an original, solid
bronze, double wing nut,
early 20th century, porthole window, that
is fully functional.
The fixture is boarded with a 1 1/2" rope
border, from an old fishing vessel
of the early 1900's.
The art is a three dimensional view of different
size sail vessels
on the open ocean, with nice vivid colors
and detail.
A very nice and unusual piece of combined
art and nautical collectibles,
you won't find anywhere, in its quality, but
here at Great South Bay.
21 1/2" long x 16 1/2" high x 2" deep
Weight a hefty 21 pounds
