JAMES FRANCIS MURRAY
1899-1990
Jas F Murray was born on September
28th, 1889 in the town
of Lawrence, Massachusetts.
In 1920 he worked for the
"LAWRENCE TELEGRAM"
a Boston newspaper, to earn
his tuition for the
Massachusetts School of Art.
In 1938 he joined the Boston
Post Newspaper where he stayed in
their employ till 1956.
After that he then took a position
at the
"RECORD AMERICAN NEWSPAPER"
where for many years, his paintings
of various
New England Scenes graced the
front covers of the
"PICTORIAL LIVING SUNDAY INSERT"
His works were of those depicting
the areas of
BOSTON, MAINE, CONNECTICUT,
CAPE COD, NANTUCKET , AND
NEW ENGLAND'S BUILDINGS OF HISTORICAL
IMPORTANCE.
including historic homes, villages
by the sea, covered bridges, & lighthouses.
He had a great love of the sea
and many works were of a seafaring nature.
In 1973 he retired from his
newspaper career to devote his remaining time
to his great love, capturing
the beauty he saw before him in his artwork.
He died on September 7th, 1990
in Tewksbury, Ma.
